The best time to get your flu shot is by the end of October.
That timing matters because protection takes about 2 weeks to build after the shot, and it can fade over the course of a season. Getting vaccinated too early, in July or August, means your protection may wane before flu activity peaks.
A few common questions:
Can you get a flu shot with other vaccines, like Shingrix or a COVID booster, at the same visit? Yes, in most cases getting more than one vaccine on the same day is fine.
Still worth getting vaccinated in November or December? Yes, some protection is better than none, and flu can circulate into late spring.
Pregnant, over 65, or living with a chronic condition? These groups are at higher risk for flu complications, and vaccination is especially recommended.
Aim for October. If you miss that window, get it anyway. It still helps.
